She was awarded an OBE in 2019 for services to the energy industry.

Francesco Mazzagatti CEO of Viaro Energy

Francesco Mazzagatti - CEO of Viaro Energy

Francesco Mazzagatti has become one of the most notable figures in UK energy over the past decade. A self-made entrepreneur who entered the sector in 2012, he founded Viaro Group and later Viaro Energy, building it into one of the North Sea's largest independent investors through acquisitions like RockRose Energy, SSE E&P UK, and HALO BV. Under his leadership, Viaro has continued investing in North Sea oil and gas even as the Energy Profits Levy pushed rivals to exit, while Mazzagatti has also become a public voice for a pragmatic UK net-zero strategy — arguing for balancing energy security with the clean-energy transition.

Martin Pibworth — SSE

Martin Pibworth became Chief Executive of SSE in July 2025 after joining the company in 1998 as an energy trader. During his career at SSE, he progressed through commercial and energy-market positions, including Managing Director of Energy Portfolio Management and Managing Director of Wholesale. He later became Chief Commercial Officer, with responsibility covering areas including renewables, thermal generation, energy markets and customer solutions. His long career within SSE provides experience of energy trading, generation, infrastructure investment and commercial strategy.

Will Gardiner — Drax

Will Gardiner is Group Chief Executive Officer of Drax. He joined the company as Chief Financial Officer in 2015 and became CEO in January 2018. His professional background includes senior finance and technology roles at companies such as CSR and Sky. At Drax, he has been closely associated with the company's development from a traditional power-generation business toward a diversified portfolio involving renewable and flexible electricity generation. His profile therefore reflects the changing role of large-scale power generation within the UK's energy system.

Portfolio project 3 1

Greg Jackson — Octopus Energy

Greg Jackson is the founder and CEO of Octopus Energy Group, which was launched in 2016. Unlike many traditional energy executives, Jackson comes from a technology and entrepreneurship background. Before establishing Octopus, he built and sold several technology businesses. The company has expanded internationally and combines energy supply with renewable generation and technology services.

Wael Sawan is Chief Executive Officer of Shell, one of the world’s largest integrated energy companies. He has spent much of his career within Shell, holding senior positions across its upstream, integrated gas, chemicals and energy businesses. Portfolio project 4 1

Meg O’Neill — Woodside Energy

Meg O’Neill is an Australian energy executive who has led Woodside Energy and built a career across the international oil and gas industry. Her professional background includes engineering, operations and senior management roles, with experience spanning major energy projects and global markets. Although Woodside is headquartered outside the UK, O’Neill is relevant to the British energy sector because of the company’s North Sea interests and the wider debate around UK energy supply, investment and transition. Her career represents the continuing international dimension of Britain’s energy industry.

Portfolio project 3 1

 Keith Anderson — ScottishPower

Keith Anderson is a senior Scottish energy executive and Chief Executive of ScottishPower. His career has been closely connected with the development of renewable electricity, networks and energy infrastructure in Britain. ScottishPower operates across electricity generation, transmission, distribution and retail, giving Anderson responsibility for a broad energy portfolio. His leadership has coincided with significant investment in offshore wind, electricity networks and renewable generation. ScottishPower’s position within the Iberdrola group also gives Anderson access to international experience and investment resources while maintaining a major presence in the UK energy market.
